About the Boat Session

The session was started about 20 years ago at the Boat Inn, Jackfield, Shropshire and draws players from all over the Midlands.

The Boat Inn is the pub you see on TV when the River Severn floods the Ironbridge Gorge. The pub has quarry tiled floors and benches and stools which can be lifted quickly as the river rises.

In 1996 the musicians formed the Jackfield Comhaltas Branch. However it folded in Autumn 2004 due to the rise in insurance costs.

After a break of five months in 2007, the pub is now open again and the session is flourishing once more with the encouragement of the new landlady Jenny Alexander.
